This is a brand new sketch. One and a half hour with a small wacom bamboo. I had an initial idea to do a very symmetric composition and to get a sort of a nice lighting feeling on it. These are some of the concepts of massive underwater landscapes for the Draining the Ocean project that I`m art directing the visual effects at 422 for a high-def NATGEO show to be aired in 2009.

Is this particular project I`m taking care of loads of stuff including pre-viz concepts, storyboards, post-viz sketches, all camera animation in Maya, 2.5D matte paintings in Terragen/PS/After Effects and final compositing work for some shots.

I have 2 incredible people in the art departament to help me, Rich Allport and Emma Home and a small, but very nice, CGI team including Rogerio Alves, Martin Blunden, Chris "terramaster" Hunt, Ryan Harrington, Emanuele Berti and Andy Howell.

Blindness - set design and VFX concepts

Hi there,
One year ago (september -2007) I had a briefly participation on the pre-production of Blindness the new feature film of Fernando Meirelles (City of God).

I did 2 "almost photo-real - matte painting" style concepts on top of provided set location photos to establish the mood of a city abandoned by blind people.

The city (Sao Paulo -Brazil, but it has no name in the film) goes for that kind of look in a short period, so most of the buildings will not be that dirty, nothing like "post-apocalypse zombie movie city" and all rubbish, rats, cars, vultures and some corpses are related to the street level.

As my participation was very short and I haven`t seen the movie so far. I don`t know how much of the ideas will be there, but I believe that will be a very interesting film with or without it, of course. And it was really cool to do the artwork mixing photos, digital paint and some 3D renders to do all the mess.

Cheers

This is an illustration that I did for a 2003 calendar with the theme of angels.
I did the image with my wife Alice in mind, but this is not a protrait of her and she didnīt posed for me, but I tried to capture some of her characteristics.
I did some experimentations on the making of the image, I did a mix of traditional materials with digital tools.
Photoshop, Painter, colored pencils and acrilics for the paint job and Maya paint fx for the feathers and some rain elements.
I hope you like it.
This is a concept art for a 3d character that I did at Trattoria filmes, an comercial film production and cg animation facility at Sao Paulo, Brazil.
This is a very simple rendering made with Photoshop and Painter, but I think this character have some funny style.
The final 3d character haven't been done for some schedule reasons.
Bye
I tryed to achieve an early 90's look of painting and texture work with this piece, something that I used to do with acrilics, gesso, paper and airbrushes, but adapted to my digital painting style.
Photoshop CS2 for painting, color correction and texture work, and Painter for painting work.
